Meet the Teacher

alt-text

Mr. Les Lamkin

My name is Les Lamkin and I am the new English and Language Arts teacher for the Mansfield School District. I’ve spent the bulk of my teaching career in Alaska, teaching in small, isolated, Native Alaska village schools. The only way in and out of the villages was by air and the nearest highway that connected to anything outside Alaska was usually several hundred miles away. I also teach as an adjunct instructor at Wenatchee Valley College, a job I’ve held for a couple of years. Mostly, I teach English Composition, but now and then I get thrown a curve ball and get to teach a Humanities course.

I have an AAS from Wenatchee Valley College, a BA in English Teaching from Central Washington University, an MA in English Literature from Mercy College and an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College.

I’m married to the charming and witty Patricia and have four children, Jennifer, Christopher, Ian and Nathan. My wife and I are the owners and operators of The Well Made Bed and Breakfast in Chelan. In my spare time (spare time?) I am a Do It Yourself home remodeler, a hobby I’m hoping to retire soon in favor of reading, writing, joining a band, composing rock and roll songs that nobody will ever hear and cooking for my friends.

I’m thrilled to be a part of the Mansfield school, to be a part of your community and to make a difference in the lives of my students.

And I won’t miss the 3000 mile commute to Alaska.
